For many people, eating gluten-free is a way of life due to a disorder called Celiac Disease.
Specifically, Celiac Disease triggers inflammation.
Also, if gluten is ingested, it can cause damage to the small intestine.
In addition, there are people who eat a gluten-free diet due to a gluten sensitivity.
Having a gluten sensitivity causes gastrointestinal distress.

Notably, according to Medical News Today, there are risks involved with a gluten-free diet.
Specifically, these risks include a higher chance of nutritional deficiencies.

Recently, a follower on our Facebook page asked our readers for recommendations on the best gluten-free restaurants in Frederick.
As usual, we received a great response and decided to put together a list.
Our readers are the absolute best, aren’t they?
Many of the restaurants listed were mentioned multiple times in our Facebook thread.
Particularly, Sanctuary: Modern Kitchen was the restaurant of choice.
As a matter of fact, Sanctuary: Modern Kitchen is gluten-free certified.
Their certification is with the Gluten-Free Food Services Training and Accreditation Program.
For this reason, this restaurant is much like a TRUE sanctuary to those who suffer Celiac Disease.

As of 4/2023 Glory Days in Frederick no longer does gluten free. E-mailed the manager and was told the menu was going to be back in a couple of weeks which was confusing because if you can handle GF a dedicated menu isn’t necessary, just convenient.
Waited a while and went back, was told by host yes they could accommodate for GF, but the waitress was adamant that it was not safe for someone who needed to be GF to eat there. Dedicated fryer is gone and risk of cross-contamination is high.
Very mixed messages, no longer feel safe eating there which is a shame because I really loved it.

Pam, try it! It’s amazing. The baked goods are the best I’ve ever had and the chicken tenders and empanadas are to-die-for!
Little known secret but Jersey Mike’s by the Mall does Gluten Free subs and has a separate prep area for high sensitivity customers! Getting a good sub is hard when gluten free and their subs are AMAZING!
Recently saw that The Common Market also has a range of gluten free bagels and bread available in the sandwich bar!
Piece O’Cake is a great stop-off for dessert with gluten free cakes, cupcakes, cookies and ice cream all available. Their gluten free ice cream cookie sandwich is awesome!
Glory Days has a gluten free menu, gluten free buns, and a dedicated gluten free fryer for doing their fries and wings.
Extra shoutout to Pistarro’s who are the only pizza place in town that are making FRESH gluten free pizza on the spot which is a total equal to the non GF pizza they make. They don’t use a separate oven though so there will be a very small amount of cross contamination likely.

I called Aleko’s several months ago and was told they have no GF options. Maybe things are better?
I called them to confirm and they told me that they do have items that meet gluten-free requirements such as their Souvlaki Chicken Salad and Gyro Salad (without the pita triangles) as well as their soups without pasta.
